Why not pick the group doing the passage you are most familiar with. That
way you only have to do 5 or 6 verses in a fortnight, and you have a bit of
a head start.

This might be a stupid question, but do we pick a group or are we assigned
a

Hi!

I am pleased to announce that the verses to be memorised by group A in the
fortnight starting on Sunday 1 August are Psalm 72: 1-5.

For further info see the passage groups explanation page at:
http://website.lineone.net/~reynoldsp/memgroups.htm

Best wishes for every success in memorising, and I hope that we will
receive
blessing from this, rather than getting big-headed! I find it difficult to
concentrate on Bible-reading, but find that when I memorise the words I
actually meditate on them and get benefit.

Kind regards

Anne,

I just started a web site to do that this week. As soon as there is
something significant there I'll have everyone check it out.

It will allow people to create passage groups for others to join and
allow everyone to post messages for all to read. etc...

From:

Good morning to all of you, and especially those in Group C.

I haven't much time this morning, as it is now 8:10 a.m. here in
Boise, and church begins at 10:00 a.m. But I wanted to
"touch-base" with all of you.

Memorizing scripture will be worthwhile in many ways. John 14
will especially help me with the ministry at the Idaho State
Veteran's Home. Up to verses 7 will be an excellent way to
introduce some to the Gospel of our Lord and Savior.

I am wondering how we are going to proceed. Will we report to one
another -- as a group -- like those in Group C? Is this a good way
to do this? This could be accomplished at the end of every week?
Please give me some feedback. Thank you.

Well, God bless all of you. This is the day the Lord has made --
rejoice and be glad in it.

If you-all want to, you could send me e-mail to those in Group C, rather
than
to everyone. Is this a good idea? It would make this more personal
if we contact each other? I am not in charge, so I do not want to
make any decisions -- just recommendations for your approval.

Subject: Group D: doctrine and encouragement
From: "Anne S"

I had read somewhere of the intense
doctrinal significance of Romans 8.

Young people's Sunday School class that
I lead has been working through Romans
since March.

My goal has been, personally, to commit Romans
8 to memory for two reasons: one for the doctrine
therein (!) and two for the encouragement,
the promises and the weapons against
"external attacks" it offers: spiritual warfare.

Up to verse 11 actually but that's
only because I got a head start. I'm relying upon
God for the discipline to repeat and retain what
I have so far in the coming days....

Hi!

As you will see from Stephen's moderatorial note, the passage memorisation
groups now have separate lists for discussion (big Hoorah from certain
members of Group C ?). I will only be sending one weekly email regarding
groups to this list (biblememistar.ca) in future. I have updated the
groups web page at http://www.biblemem.connectfree.co.uk/memgroups.htm with
links to the new lists, and look forward to hearing from you all on these

brief suggestions
make it fun......for example give them verses that have achranisms in them
like II timothy 2;15....study to show theyself approved unto God, a
workman
that needeth not be ashamed.......thats where they get a.w.a.n.a. from
....appoved workers needn't b ashamed. sorry for the kjv but that how i
memorized it
give them rewards.....this can b insulting for teenagers .....but they get
into competition ......and they do like pizza
let them b apart in choosing the passages that u want them to
memorize.....i
doubt they wil come up with passages/verses on their own .....but u could
provide them with several choices i think they participate better when
they
feel alittle ownership, expeccially at this age

For the non-Americans among us, could you please tell us what Awana clubs
are. I was wondering this as they have been mentioned several times on
this
list. I believe Scott is involved in one on his US/RAF base in Suffolk
here
in UK. I take it they are like our Boys'/Girls' Brigade, Covenanters,
Campaigners, Crusaders. Do they wear a uniform? Do they appeal to any
particular kind of church? What proportion of the time is spent on Bible

Groups A, C and S are coming to the end of their first fortnight. I would
encourage you to brush up what you have memorised before proceeding to the
next verses in the fortnight starting Sunday 15 August.

Group A (Psalms): next set of verses are Psalm 72: 6-11

I am interested in joining one of these "thematic" or "topic" lists.
Although I memorized James about 15 years ago, I find it awkward to recall
and recite specific verses to someone without going through an entire
chapter in my mind. I also have trouble putting chapter and verse to what
I
do recall. This makes using these verses to witness difficult for me. Let
me know what develops along this line...

Greetings,

Regarding the message quoted below from Robert at RGoar47642aol.com

This I believe is a fantasic idea which we should discuss further. I
think that many Christians can make good use of memorizing whole chapters,
and even whole books but memorizing long passages is not for everyone.
However, I do think that memorizing sets of short passages that can be used
to minister to others can be of great value to everyone. I suggest that we
spend some time on the list to determine what else we could memorize in
groups. We could put together lists of verses on various topics and work
through them. Some ideas might be:

- The plan of salvation, as mentioned below.
- Prayer
- Overcoming temptation
- Overcoming depression
- Other ideas?

Right now we have 5 groups going (John 14, Isaiah 40, Psalm 72, Romans 8
and
Matthew 5). These groups will grow in size, but there is room for more.

On another note, someone sent me an email suggesting that we set up a group
or two dedicated to memorizing an entire book, such as Colossians. Even if
three or four people are interesed in memorizing an entire book or other
extended passage, it would be well work setting up a group for it. You
see,
whether you are memorizing a short set of passages or a longer one, it is
important that you have some sort of encouragement and accountability from
someone who is traveling on the same road.

So if you have any particular wish to memorize a book or longer passage,
and want to find others to work with you, please submit it to the list.
Similarlly, if you have any wish to memorize a particular set of short
passages, for some specific purpose, and want to find others to go along
with you, submit that to the list also.

In case you are wondering, a 'group' is something new on the biblemem
mailing list. Each of you joined the biblemem mailing list at some time.
As you know, each time you send a message to biblememistar.ca, it is
automatically sent to all 300 people who are currently on the list. Each
time anyone replys to your message, it is also automatically sent to all
members of the list. Recently, some on the list asked if we could find a
way to create small accountability groups to memorize specific passages of
scripture. For example a schedule was devised and an invitation was given
to memorize John 14. In order for the system to be effective, we would
have
to have some way to allow everyone who wished to memorize John 14 to keep
in
touch with the others. In order not to bog down the main list with a lot
of
email traffic which would nto be of interest to all, we established several
new email discussion lists. One was specifically set up for John 14. Anyone
who wants to join the John 14 group would join this discussion list. For a
detailed schedule and additional information regarding these groups, please

Subject: Scripture Memorization
From:

Good morning Tom Tattlow, Peter Reynolds, and other members of
Scripture Memorization Group C.

This morning I have been thinking about the e-mail I sent yesterday.
Perhaps, for Group C, it isn't logical to expect others to memorize
all of John 14. That would be a task for me. Instead, I am wondering
if it would be more logical to memorize specific passages in the Bible.

What I have in mind is a simple Plan of Salvation. For me this would
be ideal, because in my volunteer work, this would help me.

One day I went into the Internet, and clicked in Plan of Salvation. What
appeared will help me. It starts with John 3:7. This deals with Jesus'
meeting with Nicodemus. Then this plan goes on to Romans 3:23,
Romans 6:23, Hebrews 9:27, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Leviticus 17:11, Romans
5:8, Acts 17:30, John 1:12, Romans 10:13.

Also, in my search that day, I found they had listed a simple prayer
from Luke 18:13. What they typed was God be merciful to me a sinner.

For all I do when I witness, the simpler I make it the better. Perhaps
those of you are familiar with the Roman Road to Salvation. I would
like to memorize the above listed Scriptures, because this will
help me. How about you folks? Would something like this be more
logical than memorizing John 14 in its entirety? I would also like to
memorize the 23rd Psalm, because when I pray with one of the
residents at the Veteran's Home, quite often this passage from God's
Word is comforting to them. Then I use John 14:12-6.

I hope what I am sending this morning will meet with your approval. I
do not know any of you; I do not know what your needs are in regard to
presenting the Gospel to the unsaved. I can only relate what will
help me obey, and follow Him.

In closing I would like to say that I am not in charge. I'm merely a
member of a wonderful group. More than a year ago I thought it would
be grand to share a Bible study with someone in a foreign land. But
this thought never became a reality. Though I did send e-mail to
certain churches in Great Britain, Scotland, and Ireland, only a pastor
from Scotland responded. But, sorry to say, I must have "drooped the ball,"
because this Bible study never became a reality. So, at long last, the
Holy Spirit has again presented a wonderful plan, and that is memorizing
scripture with people all around the world.

I've sent enough this morning. If what I have said makes sense to those of
you in Group C, please respond.
