Subject: Bible Memory List Administrator's Note
From: Stephen Simpson

Greetings,

I have not heard anything from any of the 437 members of the list for a
few weeks so I just thought I would just drop a note and say "How's the
memorization going?"

I have just joined list and have recently undertaken a Bible Study Course
so
I have not yet started the memory projects, but am looking forward to it.
I
am only in first book and 1st workbook of Bible Study, been at it for only
a
week. I will begin shortly to do some memory work, if my old brain works.
This is only the 2nd message that I have seen on this list since joining it
a few days ago.

I've heard that memorizing the first Epistle of John is best for new
believers because it helps define so much of the difference between the old
and the new life (light and darkness), etc.

I can see where Memorizing Ps or Proverbs would also be very beneficial.

I am still looking for a good software program to use for memorization. The
only good one I found was from the Mormon church. Do you of any others? I
have been working on the book of Peter for almost two years and have gotten
bogged down on the last few verses. Seem to have lost my motivation. Any
suggestions?

I do think a computer program that would pop up every morning would give me

From:

Dear brothers and sisters,

my name is Ariane, I'm 24 and I live in Germany. Maybe one year after I
became a Christian in 1992, I decided to memorize some verses a day in
order
to little by little memorize the whole New Testament. Nobody had to explain
the benefits to me. But somehow my strategic planning abilities were better
then my discipline ;-) , and I won't tell you after how little time I gave
up...

Now I would like to get started again. I'm not fully convinced yet (I mean
to the degree where I would take the pain and the needed discipline and
really DO it), so I thought just being with you on this list might help me
catch the fire again.

I'm still wondering whether it would be best to memorize scriptures in
German (my mother tongue) or in English (more useful).

One thing I have found out is that I'm a person who learns very well by
listening, so I sometimes listen to Bible tapes and it helps me to remember
even longer passages. Maybe I should just do that systematically...
By the way, recently I read about missionaries learning foreign languages
using New Testament tapes. I think this is an excellent idea to use texts
you already "know" in English to learn another language! The ministry
offering
these tapes in virtually any language (Faith comes by hearing /
hosanna.org) also promotes listening to Bible tapes as a means for churches
to get to
know the Bible better.

Okay, that's all for today.

I'm looking forward to being inspired by reading your discussions!

Best regards,

Ariane

I'm not a very responsible person where my accountability to the group is
concerned! I apoligize.

I had memorized John 14 along with Group B, but then I re-read the whole
gospel for personal study, and was so struck by Chapter 1 that I could
hardly
leave it! This is such a familiar passage for all of us, but it was just -
well - NEW to me at this time, and I've committed myself to memorizing John
from the beginning. Since it is just 21 chapters (granted some are more
lengthy than others) I think I ought to be able to do this this year.

Memorizing doesn't come easy for us oldsters - so I covet your prayers for
me. My life goal has been "to know Him", and I desire to memorize not so I
have a lot of words in my head that I can rehearse at any given moment, but
so that I can meditate on them, be changed by them, and to the end that I
might know Him better.
I believe that God has impressed upon me the necessity of memorization at
this time in my life so that I might encourage others to do the same,
especially younger women who are rearing families. This is the group which
I
have found myself mentoring in my church these days.

Finding this list has opened up a whole new area of ministry for me!

I have appreciated the helps for memorization offered by folks on the list,
and have copied them to share with these ladies.

God bless.

Stephen,
I think it might be good if the club list knew about the Three Thirty
Club for memorizing scripture. It might be a way for them to work with a
partner and have more accountability. Accountability seems to be the
reason
most people slack off a little. The whole system as you know is at
http://www.threethirtyclub.com if anyone looks at it.

From: "Dr. Kevin Meador"

I just joined this list and am excited about being a part of it. My
name is Kevin Meador. I am an evangelist. My ministry focuses on
prayer, fasting, and spiritual warfare. I have been memorizing the
Scripture since I was about 24. My goal is to finish the New Testament
by the time I am 40. I am 34 now and have about half of it finished.
My heart's desire is to know the Word so that I can have a more intimate
walk with God and have power and insight to pray. The struggle for me
is to retain what I have memorized while at the same time continuing to
increase my memorization. I would appreciate any insights that anyone
can share on this. Thanks! God bless you!

ought and/or I know would desire me to. But inspite of that , I've been
blessed and I know you both have been too. So I just encourage everyone to
stay focused in this memorization process. Do whatever works for you...
For I truly believe that it will be the answers to our prayers, the
catalyst in our breakthrough, the needed healing touch and the lift to our
next level to name a few. See, we need to speak the promises of God into
the atmosphere and cause the devil to flee from our homes, our families,
our workplace, our churches and our relationships to name a few. The
adversary knows that we lack that knowledge so he builds hinderances in our
way to prevent us from knowing more and the will/determination to stay
focus. So my brothers and sisters in Christ let's vow to our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ that we will earnestly attempt at staying focused. The
time we use on the phone can be study time. While we are cooking , it can
be study time. As we travel to and fro, can be study time. .....you know
I am a young woman who has been blessed to be elevated in the Lord at such
a young age. Several have even characterized me as "mother"; because of
the wisdom that has been handed to me. And I know that it hasn't been by my
own merits but merely by the grace of God. Amen. And with all due
respect, we tend to find time to do any and every thing else we want to
do...why not memorization.
Be encouraged.......be blessed....

I haven't taken part in the list because I haven't been memorizing like I
should. However, my wife and I are now ready to start. Do you have any
good ideas? We are thinking about using Memlock.

thanks,

John

Subject: Re: Welcome to the Biblemem list!
From: stephanie

Hi everyone
I too am new to this list. I am 22 and have been a Christian for almost a
year.
I love the lord Jesus, and want to memorize the scriptures, so I can walk
closer to him. Also so Can help toers, I witness on IC and sometimes I need
it.
I found a really great way of remembering the word.
I take a verse or verses, look at it, and just pick out the main words.
Then I meditate on them, and ask myself the following:
What does this verse/verses mean?
How do I apply this?
Where are the climaxes etc?
After this, I usually find it just comes to me.
And I don't forget them.
(I'm very new at this)
Hope that helped someone
God bless and have a great Christmas.

Stephen:

Thanks for the reminder to write! I've just had my memorizing move to a
new level. My husband and I got a treadmill for ourselves as a Christmas
Gift this year. We both need to exercise and make excuses as to why we
can't get outside to walk [too cold, too rainy, you name it].

Anyway, our treadmill has a book holder to read while walking. This
seemed too cumbersome. Then it hit me [Divine Inspiration, I'm sure] -
I'll use the time to memorize scripture! Now I have my index cards set on
the little shelf in front of me while I walk. It's like a wonderful bonus
to get on the treadmill and spend the time with the Lord. I walk to
Praise music and meditate/memorize scripture. Glorious!

Blessed Christmas to All!

Dear Stephen,

Thankyou for your Website. I have been searching for something like this on
the Web for about a Year now. I have printed off all your chapters and I am
sharing them with my best friend Jeff. It is my intention to seriously
memorize scripture for the first time in my life, i am 39 and i have been a
born again christian for 7 years. I am married to Lesley, and we have four
children, Tracey 17, Sarah 11 and Angela 3 and my severely disabled son 16.

I intend to use the memorization of scripture as an invaluable tool in
setting me free from mental illness which i have suffered since 1989. Only
God knows the root cause of my illness, and I beleive through faith in
Jesus, that His Word can set me free from the demonic tentacles that are
still suckered to my mind. The Octopus has been dealt with forever! Praise
God! But I beleive that your program along with prayer, bible study,
worship
church fellowship, laying on of hands, obedience, disipline and bible
memorization will heal my mind and heart.

I thank you and God bless you. Please pray for me and my best mate Jeff as
we embark on this bible memorization together for the Glory of God. I have
faith for changed minds and a heartbeat for holiness that only the Holy
Spirit can provide.

Again God bless you and your family. Your program is an answered prayer.

Peter Nicolle
