My husband and I are both long-time, long-passage memorizers.
I must say that I am approaching the ADDICTION stage. If I can't take my walk
to work on my verses, I get CRANKY (I'm not saying this is a GOOD thing).

We write out four new verses a week on a 3-x 5 card with a hole punched in one
corner and then put them on a ring. I work on current verses as I take my daily
morning walk. Once a week I get together with a sister and we recite out verses
to each other. She & I work on the same passage at the same rate only different
versions. We get together once a week and recite our current verses, then add
four more for the next week (so, in four weeks we recite 16 verses at once). At
the end of a chapter we relegate that chapter to "review" status and start over
with 4 new verses. When we start over on a new chapter we have fewer verses to
be working on so we've started reciting an old "review"
passage on that week as well as reciting the "current" passage.
But where I have the problem is in developing a SYSTEM of review beyond the ones
we review once a week (ones that were memorized 6 months or a year ago and need
to be kept fresh); how to organize when to review passages & at what intervals.
I tried setting aside every Sunday to review old passages but was not able to
stay consistent with it. I felt it was taking too much time away from the
family.

So what kinds of review systems do you all have?

Ah, what an inspiration!

The best review that I have is too try to work the verses into conversation...
like the old system of building your vocabulary by using the word in a sentence.
Once I have something in the review stage, I try to work it into a conversation
every day for seven days... Seems to help a lot!

HTH,

Marsha

Subject: Memorizing key verses through 2 KINGS
From: Philip Walker

2nd KINGS!
Would you like to join us?

Dear Bible memorizing friends, below is some information about memorizing OT
scripture. I belong to a small group of memorizers who are memorizing a key
verse from each chapter of the Old Testament at the pace of 1 verse per day. We
started 14 months ago with GENESIS. This has been a very enjoyable activity, as
well as profitable in giving us an overview of those OT books as well as helping
us enjoy some wonderful less known truths of God.
On March 1st, 2004 we will be starting 2 KINGS. I would like to invite you
and/or friends of yours who are not a part of the Bible memory website to join
us.

This month, our group has 12-20 people actively memorizing a key verse each day
from 1 KINGS. The memorizers email me with their favorite verses, and I

turn these into the official list the group memorizers. The group often takes
time to review at the end of months, and tries to start new books on the 1st of
the month. This helps us keep tract of which verse we are supposed to memorize
each day.

The tentative 2004 schedule is as follows:

Jan 1-24 = 2 SAMUEL
Feb 1-22 = 1 KINGS
March 1-25 = 2 KINGS
April 1-29 = 1 CHRONICLES
May 1- June 5 = 2 CHRONICLES
June 11-20 = EZRA
July 1-13 = NEHEMIAH
July 21-30 = ESTHER
Aug 1 - Sept 11 = JOB
Oct 1-30 = PSALMS 1-30

November 1-30 = Review of 2 SAMUEL, 2 KINGS, 2 CHRONICLES, NEHEMIAH, and JOB

December 1-31 = Review of 1 KINGS, 1 CHRONICLES, EZRA, ESTHER, and PSALM 1-30

Currently our group has both teenagers and adults representing NY, NJ, GA, SC,
VA, OH, VT, and Nigeria.

The accountability is flexible. Some just prefer to receive the list of verses
and to be on their own to memorize; others quiz themselves every 5 days. Those
who email their quizzes to me receive them back corrected. If you would like to
join us or would like more information, please feel free to email
philjohn1558@yahoo.com Please also pray for the group as we seek to honor our
LORD JESUS CHRIST and learn His Word!

The 1st 5 verses of 2 KINGS (for March 1-5) already selected are:

2 KINGS 1:13 So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men.
This third captain went up and fell on his knees before Elijah. "Man of God,"
he begged, "please have respect for my life and the lives of these fifty men,
your servants.! "

2 KINGS 2:14 Then he took the cloak that had fallen from him and struck the
water with it. "Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?"
he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left,
and he crossed over.

2 KINGS 3:14 Elisha said, "As surely as the LORD Almighty lives, whom I serve,
if I did not have respect for the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would
not look at you or even notice you.

2 KINGS 4:28 "Did I ask you for a son, my lord?" she said. "Didn't I tell you,
'Don't raise my hopes'?"!

2 KINGS 5:13 Naaman's servants went to him and said, "My father, if the prophet
had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it?
How much more, then, when he tells you, 'Wash and be cleansed'!".

I typed these verses in the NIV, which is what most of the members use.
However, we also have people memorizing in the KJ and NKJ. I will be glad to
email you these and all future verses in whatever translation you would like.

If you join us, please feel free to email me with any of your favorites from 2
KINGS chapter 6-25, that you would like to nominate to be considered for the
list.

In Christ, Phil Walker

PS On Sept, 1st, 2004, we plan, Lord willing, to launch the 1 year New
Testament Bible Memory Challenge.

on Google while doing a search for "memorizing = scripture". I felt a great
burden to memorize scripture so I wouldn't = have to fumble through my Bible
every time someone asked a question or = said something contradictory to
scripture. As of today I have 270 verses = memorized from the KJV and am trying
to do a minimum of 40 a month.=20

Not sure how active this forum is. Anyways, God bless you all!

Marcin,

Welcome to the forum. It is QUITE active!

I have been memorizing on a regular basis for around 4 years now, although I
knew nothing about this forum at the time. I memorized by chapters in the
beginning and since then have progressed to books.
I have been working on the book of Hebrews for the last 8 months or so and am
presently partway through Chapter 9. I expect to finish Hebrews by the fall,
the Lord willing.

Memorizing Scripture has been one of the greatest sources of blessing I have
ever experienced in my life. I believe everyone can do it if they want to badly
enough!

God bless you!
