I'm sorry I can't help you with your search, but thank you for the
reference
to the book. My daughter is a music major in college and has agreed to
write music for the passages I'm trying to memorize. This book will be a
great benefit for us both! Thanks so much!

Hi, my name is Val, and I would be interested in how I may obtain the book
you mentioned "Word for Word" by John Rees. I teach small groups as well
as
beginning to work with kids on memorizing and am very interested in using
music and rap. Look forward to hearing from you, Ken.

There is a series called "Sing the Word". They are word for word large
scritpture sections set to music. They are made by a lady in Garland.
They
can be found in homeschool catalogs. I can't lay my hands on them right
now. I would be interested in purchasing your tape that you made for
yourself. Would you consider it? I can't read notes or sing, but I can
sure try if I can sing along with others.

Hi, Mark,

Can you send us information about Bible quizzing? We work with a group of
teens from a Bible church in Texas. One of our kids was involved with
Bible
quizzing in the mid-west a few years ago and really enjoyed it. We are
really unaware of any Bible quizzing competitions around here ... can you
provide any information?

Thanks,

Hello!

I didn't expect so many people to want to memorize
part of Luke. That will be such an
encouragement!(for everyone, I hope :)

Those who showed an interest in memorizing are:

Brad U., Ian S., Lee S., and Rebecca

Good Question! And you are right, it is very loooong.
That is why I wanted to have some accountability.

I am a Teen Bible Quiz coach (Assemblies of God), and
this summer we will start studying Luke, for next
years official competition. (basically from July 2000
to July 2001).

Even though I won't quiz, (except for adult quiz at
Nationals, which is only over chapters 1-9) I have
made it my personal goal to memorize the whole book of
Luke with the teens. Not only will it really motivate
them if they see me memorizing it with them, but also
I think it is so awesome to memorize a book about
Jesus.
His life, teachings, death, and ressurrection.
I know that if we memorize scripture, God can use it
for His glory.

So I would love it if all you would memorize even part
of it with me. I don't have much accountability with
the teens (since they try to find any way NOT to
memorize.)

I am going to set up a schedule to space the
memorizing out over the year, so it won't seem as
long. (at least I hope it won't seem as long ;)

If anyone else wants to follow it, that would be
great! Or, if you just want to keep me accountable,
by checking up on me I would really appreciate it.

I don't know if it would be best to email each other
individually, or just send mail to each other through
the the Bible Memorizing list. (which is what it's
purpose is anyways). I'm going to TRY to start
studying mid-July, (even though the Quiz year doesn't
start until school starts).

Lets keep in touch!

Mark Connor
the, quote, coach.

Subject: Looking for Beta testers for "InVerse" scripture memorization
From: "Lynn Allan"

Hi BibleMem participants,

I started subscribing to this list some time back, but haven't been active
as far as participating.

Over the past year, I've gotten active in memorizing Scripture verses. For
my own purposes, I put together a kludgey mishmash of an Excel spreadsheet,
BibleExplorer, Access database, and WinWord word processor. Uncle!

As I got more involved in this valuable pursuit, I did some preliminary
investigation of software and web-sites that might help me accomplish
progress by being better organized.

So far, I have come across about a dozen products or sites, but did not
encounter anything that was both up-to-date and had the functionality I was
hoping to find. After all, if an existing program was adequate, there
wouldn't be any need for me to re-invent the wheel.

Over the past several months, I've developed an Access-97 database
application that I think might be useful for a person undertaking scripture
memorization. Below is a preliminary text file describing its
functionality.

I would be very appreciative if you would be willing to participate as a
'beta' tester of this software. If so, I can e-mail you a stand-alone
distribution package. The initial download includes the Access-97 runtime
files, and totals about 11 meg (ouch!). The database InVerse.mdb is less
than 1 meg of this.

After this initial large download, subsequent enhancements based on tester
feedback would be reasonably small, on the order of 1 meg.

Purpose:
The 'InVerse' Bible Memorization Program is intended to assist a person in
memorizing Scripture passages. Scripture memorization takes time and
effort, but it is reasonable that a person can master scores of passages
more effectively with this tool, compared to simple flashcards.

Features:
- Each passage is accompanied by relevant context. The user can decide to
view just the passage itself, or the accompanying context of several verses
before and after the passage. As D. James Kennedy states, 'Text without
context can be pretext.' As an example, the beginning of Ephesians 6:4 is
'Fathers, do not exasperate your children.' However, the full context
makes
it clear that children are to obey their parents, and parents are to train
their children in the ways of the Lord.

- Most passages are accompanied by extensive commentary, either by Matthew
Henry or from 'Thru the Bible'.

- Progress on each specific passage can be tracked, from 'just started' to
“fair' to 'good' to 'mastered'. Once mastered, the frequency of recitation
can be revised to weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually. This helps keep
the passage reasonably 'fresh' in the user’s mind while tackling new
passages.

- Overall progress can be gauged by calculating a 'score' that reflects the
number of verses, difficulty of each passage, and progress on the verse. A
'statistics' page shows the number of passages broken down by recitation
frequency and progress.

- Individual passages and groups of passages can be printed on 3x5 flash
cards to use away from the computer. This can include the ‘active’
passages
that are being memorized, as well as summary ‘jump starters’ of mastered
passages that are being recited less frequently.

- Several provisions are implemented for ‘matching’ a passage and its
reference (e.g., the John 3:16 reference matches the passage 'For God so
loved the world … '.

- Some provisions are implemented for Bible study, with questions that
relate to a particular passage. Passages can be selected and viewed by 40+
separate topics, such as Grace, Forgiveness, Faith, etc.

- Users can add their own passages, along with associated context and
commentary.

Beta Functionality Limitations:
The beta version of 'InVerse' has the following differences from what is
planned for the final version:

- Preloaded with 70+ passages rather than 300+ passages (total of over 2000
verses in the final version, including NIV, NKJV, NASB, NCV, and others)

- User cannot add their own passages in the beta version

- Printing not implemented

- Recitation frequency choices are limited to 'Daily', 'Weekly', and
'Inactive'. The full version will have provisions for 'Monthly',
'Quarterly', and 'Yearly'.

- Limited to single user. The full version may allow several people to
track progress on each passage individually.

- Short version of passage is the only choice. In the full version, the
advanced user can select to memorize the entire context, and be ‘scored’
accordingly.

- Simple ‘scoring’ is available in the beta version that takes into account
the number of verses and the level of mastery. The final version will have
more sophisticated scoring that better reflects the length of the verses,
how long it has been since the passage has been recited, and other factors.

Usage: First Session
The software comes preloaded with 70+ passages. To simplify getting
started, one passage has been pre-selected for 'Daily' recitation (John
3:16), and the rest are considered 'Inactive'. The main 'Recitation' page
is where most time will be spent.

The following is recommended for learning a new passage. First, read the
passage several times, and then view the context and commentary. It is
valuable to have a fuller understanding of the passage beyond just the
passage itself. There are option buttons on the upper right of the screen
(Visibility - Show) that control how much information is shown. The
choices
are 'Off', 'Hint', 'Passage', 'Context', and 'Commentary'.

Generally, it takes several separate sessions to have a passage reliably
memorized. On the first day of a new passage, read it over and over
perhaps
ten to twenty times. Then, set the Visibility to 'Off (Nothing)' and check
if you can recite the passage. Do several recitations without looking at
the passage, and then grade your progress, using the option buttons on the
middle right ('Just Started or Poor', 'Fair', 'Good', or 'Mastered').

On the next time you use the software, check that the 'Show Reference'
button is enabled. Glance at the passage, and then set the Visibility
option to 'Hint'. See how well you can recite the passage, and grade
yourself accordingly. Turn off the 'Hint' by setting 'Visibility' to
'Off'.
(As you become familiar with the program, you may find that you leave the
'Visibility' option set to 'Passage' and just glance away from the screen.)

As a passage is mastered, the next big step is to tackle a new passage.
This involves changing the 'Recitation Frequency' of the selected passage
from 'Inactive' to 'Daily'. Here is the procedure:

- In the lower right part of the window, change the option for 'Which
Passages to Show' from Daily to Inactive.

- 'Navigate' (see section below) to the passage you want to tackle. I
would
suggest using Psalms 119:11 which is related to memorization for your
second
passage.

- In the lower left part of the window, change the option for 'Set
Recitation Frequency for this Passage' from 'Inactive' to 'Daily'.

Now you have two passages in the 'Daily' status. The suggested procedure
is
to concentrate on the new passage (see above), but recite the original
passage every once in a while. Each person is different, but you will
probably find that there has been some 'slippage' of your mastery of the
first verse. It can take three to five sessions before a passage is
mastered, especially when you have worked up to dozens of passages.

A passage is considered 'mastered' when you can recite it with just the
reference showing, no hint, essentially no errors, and minimal hesitations.
Also, you should be able to view the passage and state the reference.

On longer passages, you can decide for yourself how critical it is to have
every word exactly correct. It can be difficult to get every 'and', 'for',
'thus', etc. just right. Depending on your preference, you will be able to
memorize more passages to the level of 'good' than the level of 'mastered'.

You have to decide for yourself how much of a 'purist' you are. For what
it
’s worth, I have become less of ‘purist’ over time, and have become less
concerned if I don’t remember whether the passage has 'the Lord' or 'the
Lord your God'. Obviously, this is a personal preference, which may change
over time.

Subsequent sessions:
Within a short time, you will have three to five passages being actively
learned in the 'Daily' category. Now you are ready for the next big step,
which involves changing a passage’s recitation frequency from 'Daily' to
'Weekly'.

Navigate through the daily passages, and select the one you feel has been
definitely mastered. In the lower left, change the 'Recitation Frequency'
of the selected passage from 'Daily' to 'Weekly'. This is very similar to
the procedure describe above for changing frequency from Inactive to Daily.
Similarly, you will eventually change passages from 'Weekly' to 'Monthly',
then 'Monthly' to 'Quarterly', and then even to 'Yearly'.

At the same time, you will typically tackle a new passage, which involves a
similar procedure of changing the recitation frequency from 'Inactive' to
'Daily'. (see above)

Typical Usage:
Once you have embarked on the memorization program, you will shortly have
the various passages split up by frequency. For myself, I will have three
to five new passages being actively memorized in the 'daily' category, ten
or more passages in the 'weekly' category, and the rest in the 'monthly'
category. I don’t tend to put passages in the 'Quarterly' or 'Yearly'
category because I get too rusty with that long of a duration between
recitations.

The following describes a typical session after several months of usage.

- The user starts up the program, and sets the 'Which Passages to Show' to
'Daily', sets the 'Show Reference' to 'checked', and the 'Visibility -
Show'
to 'Off (Nothing)'

- If possible, recite the passage based solely on the reference. As
necessary, show the 'Hint' or 'Passage' itself. Assign a progress grade.
Decide if the passage has been mastered, and, as applicable, change its
recitation frequency from 'Daily' to 'Weekly'.

- Repeat for the other passages in the 'Daily' category.

- Turn the 'Show Reference' to 'un-checked', and the 'Visibility - Show'
option to 'Passage' or 'Hint'. Cycle through the passages and check if you
can name the reference based the passage or hint.

- Decide whether to tackle a new passage. If so, spend significant time
learning the passage. Expect to take several sessions to improve from
'Just
Started or Poor' to 'Good'.

- Change the 'Which Passages to Show' option button from 'Daily' to
'Weekly'. Recite and grade your progress as you did for the 'Daily'
passages. Similarly, decide if you want to change any of these passages
from 'Weekly' to 'Monthly'.

- Repeat the above for 'Monthly', 'Quarterly', and 'Yearly' passages. You
may want to change some passages to be recited more frequently, such as a
passage in the 'Quarterly' category being changed to 'Monthly'.

- At the end of the session, go to the 'Statistics' page. Make a note of
your current 'score', and then press the 'Calc Score' button. The
statistics and score will be updated to reflect progress. Note that your
score can go down if you have gotten rusty on some passages, and your
rating
of your progress has gone down.

Alternative Usage with InVerse for Scoring
For myself, I accomplish most of my Scripture memorization while walking my
two dogs, Newton and BB. I will take 3x5 flashcard printouts of the active
'Daily' passages with me, along with 3x5 flashcards that have a summary of
the 'Weekly' passages and 'Monthly' passages.

Generally, I will have a new passage to be learned, so I go over and over
that passage. As it starts to 'sink in', I will intersperse it with the
other daily passages; do the new passage, then another passage I’ve been
working on, then the new passage, then another passage being mastered, then
back to the new passage, and so on. Each passage will be in a different
stage of ‘mastery’.

After a period of this, I’ll shift to the weekly passages, and then some of
the monthly passages. When I get home, I’ll start up the computer and the
InVerse software, and note my progress.

You will find yourself becoming more adept at memorizing as time goes on;
the mental ‘muscles’ become more capable. Each person has their own best
way of making progress.

Eventually, you may want to tackle longer passages. My preference is for
passages that are about four to six verses long, so I will memorize the
passage and some of the related context. The full, final version will have
provisions for this preference.

Within each recitation frequency (Daily, Weekly, etc.), the software keeps
track of the last time the passage was presented. The 'oldest' passage
(i.e. the one that was recited the longest time ago) is presented for
recitation. This isn’t much on an issue when only a few passages are
‘active’. In reality, the software doesn’t actually track whether it has
been a week or a month since the user recited the passage. The equivalent
result is accomplished by rotating through the verses based on how long it
has been since the passage has been recited.

The user can choose how much of the passage to see, and whether the
‘reference’ is shown (i.e., the Book + Chapter + Verse, such as John 3:16).
While a passage is being memorized, keep the reference in view.
Eventually,
you should be able to recite the passage with just the reference showing,
and name the reference with the passage showing.

Definitions:
Verse: All or part of a single verse from the Bible.
Snippet: Part of a single verse.
Passage: One or more verses from a book and chapter of the Bible.
Context: Additional verses before and/or after the passage to enhance
understanding of the passage.
Commentary: Comments about the passage, either by Matthew Henry or from
'Thru the Bible'
Freeware: Software that is available without charge. It may have certain
restrictions or limitations. The author may retain the copyright.
Shareware: 'Try-before-you-buy' software. It can be acquired for little or
no cost, and payment is not required immediately. It may have certain
restrictions or limitations. Eventually, a user is expected to purchase
and
register the software.
Translation: Different versions of the Bible, such as KJV (King James
Version), NIV, NASB, NKJV, etc.
Navigation: Changing the passage being viewed. At the bottom middle of the
screen is a 'control' showing Record: << < ### > >> of ###
(Filtered) The user can go from the first passage (<<), the previous
record
(<), the next record (>), and the last record (>>).

Other Issues:
People differ on how important it is to memorize a passage well vs.
exactly.
The tradeoff involves how many passages can be memorized with the same
amount of time and effort. If you are too ‘sloppy’, you have the risk of
changing the meaning of the passage.

This program makes several provisions for awareness of the context of the
passage, rather than just the passage itself. Commentary is also included.

Some people would advocate memorizing large ‘chunks’ of the Bible rather
than passages scattered around the Bible. They would question the value of
memorizing relatively short, scattered passages, and would instead tackle
entire chapters, and even entire books. (!) There is a group in our church
who have undertaken the Sermon on the Mount, which is over 100 verses in
Matthew 5-7. This program can be used for that, but the advantages of
using
it are less.

People also differ on how they intend to use the passages. The Evangelical
Explosion program for witnessing involves memorizing a number of short
passages from many different books of the Bible. Some of the passages are
just part of a single verse. For this purpose, the verses are very helpful
to augment the Gospel presentation. Their ‘audience’ may be unfamiliar
with
the Bible, and the creditability of the presentation is enhanced by have
specific verses that show, 'Yes, the Bible really says, ‘be perfect’, and
‘the wages of sin is death’'.

Other people view memorization as more closely associated with spiritual
meditation on God’s word. They benefit from reflecting on passages while
on
walks or drives. For them, longer passages may be desired, rather than
‘snippets’.

Another issue and concern is that Bible memorization can become a
‘legalistic’ activity, or where the person may be inappropriately trying to
impress other people with their piety or ability. It is useful to be able
to quote Scripture in different circumstances, but in day-to-day
conversations, a single verse (or even just a ‘snippet’) is about as long
as
can be naturally stated.

As time goes by, most people will be pleasantly surprised how accomplished
they can get with Scripture memorization. It definitely is a skill that
improves with practice.

All the grading is done on the ‘honor system’. It is up to you to
determine
what constitutes 'fair' vs. 'good' vs. 'mastered'. An alternative that
other programs use is to have the user type in the passage, and only allow
exact entry to be passing. This was felt to be too cumbersome and
time-consuming, especially as the longer passages were tackled. In the
full
shareware version, one of the passages is the full Ten Commandments, which
is 17 verses and 1600+ letters long.

This software has some passages from the KJV, NKJV, NIV, and NASB
translations. There are subtle differences in meaning, and some
translations are more poetic than others. In addition, copyright concerns
were taken into account. In general, the publishers of modern Bibles set a
limit of between 250 and 1000 verses that can be quoted. This software
stays within these limits. Most passages are from the New International
Version translation (NIV).

In the shareware version, the user is free to add whatever passages from
whatever translation is desired.

Start your practice session with a prayer for the Holy Spirit to help you
with progress and understanding God’s Word.

Setup:
This program works best if the screen display resolution is set to 800x600
or higher. It is usable with 640x480 resolution, but less so; you may have
to do some scrolling to see all parts of the screen. Windows has 'Help' on
this, which can be located by 'Start' + 'Help' + 'To change your screen
resolution'.

Some older PC’s may be limited to 640x480 resolution, but most can be set
for higher resolution. This also depends on the monitor. A 13' or 14'
monitor may be limited, but most monitors of 15' or greater can be set to
1024x768 or greater. 'InVerse' works well with 1024x768 resolution.

If you increase your display screen resolution, you will probably also want
to check the refresh rate. The default tends to be 60 per second, which
can
result in some screen flicker and ‘shimmy’. Most people find a refresh
rate
of 70+ per seconds to be satisfactory. Some people will experience
headaches with a screen refresh of 60 per second. Also, you may want to
adjust the font size from small to large.

Connis,
Hi! I too have always wanted to memorize Psalm 119. I did the first 8
verses years ago, and I just finished leading a small group in Scripture
Memorization. One week, I told my class it was time to think big and that
we were going to tackle a whole Psalm. I had them turn to Psalm 119, and I
thought their teeth were going to fall out. I shared with them some of the
key verses in Psalm 119 about memorizing, etc., then I told them my high
aspiriations of memorizing this complete Psalm, but for now, we would
memorize another complete Psalm, and I had them go two chapters back to
Psalm 117 (the shortest Psalm), and we memorized that. They of course were
very relieved. As a class we did memorize a couple of verses from Psalm
119, and the first 8 verses of John 15. My goal for this summer is to
finish John 15, but I would like to begin Psalm 119 again. I wish you the
best, and I will join you as much as possible. I am glad to see you
mentioned that your "family" was drawn to this Psalm and that you are
contemplating it as a family project.

Hi! My family and I feel very drawn to Psalm 119 as a starter for
memorization. Is there any one who would like to join us in this project?
Also, has anyone ever tried memorizing Ps 119? How did you do it? How
much time did it take to finish this project?
Thanks.

Hi, Elizabeth,

I'd welcome someone else to work with - do you have any ideas as to how
you'd like the "accountability" set up?

For me, it would help to have someone else just thinking and pondering the
same passages I am. I'm ashamed to say I have made no further progress
than
when I sent the original e mail, other than reviewing it a few times.

I'm a mom of two homeschooled teenagers and I live in Texas. Can you tell
me about you?

Gean,

Last year I made the goal of memorizing chapter 8 of Romans - very
rewarding!
The key for me was breaking it down and memorizing it in the three sections
the NIV breaks it down into: Life in the Spirit, Romans 8:1-17; Future
Glory,
Romans 8:18-27; and More than Conquerors, Romans 8:28-39. That way I was
able
to use a variation of Navigators' topical system, and just added onto the
verses as I went.

Subject: Passage Groups
From: "Lee E. Schaeffer III"

Hi everyone,

I've set up a message board on the web for people to discuss memorizing
scripture. I'm going to work on a website to go along with it, but I wanted
to let everyone know about the board right away.
I set up one "Passage Group" on Luke. The Passage Groups will be a place
for those working on the specific material of the group, to encourage each
other and hold each other accountable. If you have any other groups you'd
like to start e-mail me at lschaefnb.net and I'll get it started for you.
All of the Passage Groups on the board will start with a *. (ie. *Luke).
Hopefully everything is explained well enough on the boards.

Take a look let me know if you have any questions.

Subject: Memorizing James Together
From: "Lorry Schoenly"

We have three people from the Bible Mem List that are joining together
starting the first of July to memorize the Book of James [Herb, Mercy,
Lorry]. We welcome others to our little band. Our first segment is James
1:1-8 and we have from July 1 -14 to commit it to memory. If you would like
to join in, we have a separate email list set up for our specific
discussion
of our James work. You can join the group at:

jamesmemory-subscribeegroups.com

Hope to 'see' others of you there! It is fun to work together toward a goal
and to keep each other encouraged during the struggle. We CAN overcome our
weak and needy will through God's grace [II Cor 12:9]

Subject: InVerse 0.91 freeware beta now available for Scripture
From: "Lynn Allan"

Hi BibleMem list participants:

Beta 0.91 should install more smoothly. F)or W)hat I)t's W)orth FWIW, the
number of passages was trimmed from 70+ to 30+ to simplify. The ordering
of
'InActive' passages was fixed.

http://www.driveway.com/share?sid=9fd335bb.85670&name=InVerse+Beta+0.91

1. If you do not have Access-97 or Access-2000, download the large 11 meg
file InVerse.exe. Click on the downward-pointing red arrow to the left of
InVerse.exe. This should start a download of this large file. Preferrably,
have the download placed in C:\Temp\InVerse on your local hard drive.

2. 'Navigate' using Explorer and dbl-Click on C:\Temp\InVerse\InVerse.exe.
This should result in the utility WinZip running, and requesting where to
unzip the files. Specify the files to be expanded into the C:\Temp\InVerse
folder (which should be the default)

3. Now 'navigate' using Explorer to C:\Temp\InVerse and dbl-click on
Setup.exe This should launch a 'wizard' that will walk you through
installing into the directory folder:
C:\Program Files\InVerse

4. Look over ReadMe.rtf in C:\Program Files\InVerse

5. 'Launch' InVerse.exe by clicking on
Start + Programs + InVerse + InVerse

6. Note: If you were able to download InVerse.exe and go through the
installation process, you may only need to download the much smaller files
from DriveWay.com:

InV_be.mdb 356 kb
InVerse.mde 494 kb

These should be copied to the subdirectory folder
C:\Program Files\InVerse

Faithfully,
Lynn Allan

Subject: Biblemem list administrator's note.
From: "Stephen Simpson"

Greetings,

There seems to be quite a bit going on these days on the biblemem list!

There are a couple of people who are working on projects to help others
memorize scripture. These items have been posted to the list, but I am
summarizing them here. Later I plan on setting up a comprehensive
scripture
memory resources page on Internet to keep a record of what is available:

1) : "Lee E. Schaeffer III" has set up a message board
which can be found at http://pub16.ezboard.com/bpassagegroups . This
message
board is just beginning, but seems like a great idea. There is a section
reserved for introductions and memorization ideas in general, but there are
also message areas set up for discussions about the memorization of
specific
passages.

2) "Lynn Allan" has designed an access
database based program to assist in the memorization of scripture. The
software is currently being beta tested. A few days ago she released a
note
on the list to ask for beta testers. Several people have responded. I have
forwarded these names to Lynn. In the meantime, you can download the
software from the Internet at
http://www.driveway.com/share?sid=9fd335bb.85670&name=InVerse+Beta+0.91 .
A
post has been released to the list describing this software. The software
is
called InVerse.

3) Todd Beach (not currently a member of the list)
has also made available a new software package which is currently in Beta.
He is also looking for beta testers. His software is called BibleMem 2000
and is available at http://www.dbtech.net/bibletech .

4) I have also been working on a update for my own biblememory software. My
web site currently has a DOS program. I have been converting it to Windows.
It will be available in a few weeks. Both Todd and I have been working on
our programs for over a year, without even knowing that the other existed,
and it is interesting to see that the programs are somewhat similar. They
both, among other things, use a computer generated voice to assist you in
learning the verses. I will send a note out when it is ready.

(All three of these programs require quite a long download - up to 11
megabytes. So you will need a good internet connection to get them)

5) "Lorry Schoenly" has organized a email
list for those who wish to memorize the Book of James. A note as been
posted to the list with the details. The email list address is
jamesmemory-subscribeegroups.com

6) Some time ago I set up a newsgroup alt.bible.memorize for an open
discussion on the topic. From time to time I write and article and post it
there. This is a public newsgroup and as such it gets a lot of junk in it.
But I figure that by now, most every major news server hosts it. If you
have the time I would like you to start to monitor it and to make some
postings to it. It is a good way to boost the popularity of the newsgroup
and to reach people all over the world with the gospel.

I greatly appreciate everyone's effort in making scripture memorization an
active part of our lives. I challenge everyone to help teach other
Christians about the importance of putting God's word in your heart and in
your head.

If everybody who able, could start some sort of Internet ministry or
service, then the impact would be great.

My prayer is that God would give His whole Church a overwhelming desire for
His Word. Let's make it a common prayer.

Subject: Beta tester for InVerse memorization program
From: "Lynn Allan"

Hi Stephen Simpson,

Beta tester for InVerse memorization programGreat! Glad to have you helping
out.

I hope I've come up with a viable way to let InVerse beta testers access
the
files so as to get started. If you are willing to participate in this
effort, here are the steps involved:

1. Use any Web browser to access files on the _www.Driveway.com_ web-site
using the link below:

http://www.driveway.com/share?sid=9fd335bb.7a285&name=InVerse+Beta+0.1

This should take you directly to the InVerse Beta 0.1 folder.

2. You should now see three files:

InV_be.mdb 356 kb
InVerse.exe 11 megs
InVerse.mde 494 kb

3a. If you have MicroSoft Access-97 or Access-2000, then you only need the
two smaller files: InV_be.mdb and InVerse.mde. Click on the
downward-pointing red arrow to the left of each file, one at a time. This
should start downloading each file. Preferrably, have the download placed
in
C:\Temp. Copy the two files where you have other Office-97 or Office-2000
data files, such as "My Documents" You can now launch Access-97 or
Access-2000 and open InVerse.mde.

The following steps apply if you do NOT have Access-97 or Access-2000.

3b. If you do not have Access-97 or Access-2000, download the large file
InVerse.exe. Click on the downward-pointing red arrow to the left of
InVerse.exe. This should start a download of this large file. Preferrably,
have the download placed in C:\Temp\InVerse on your local hard drive.

4. Dbl-Click on C:\Temp\InVerse\InVerse.exe. This should result in the
utility WinZip running, and requesting where to unzip the files. Specify
the files to be expanded into the C:\Temp\InVerse folder.

5. Now Dbl-click on C:\Temp\InVerse\Setup.exe This should launch a 'wizard'
that will provide directions to install C:\Program Files\InVerse

6. Look over ReadMe.rtf in C:\Program Files\InVerse. This has some
introductory information, and describes how to include additional passages
once you get started, and change recitation frequency from daily to weekly.

7. Launch InVerse by clicking on Start + Programs + InVerse + InVerse The
RunTime version of Access-97 should launch and John 3:16 should be
presented.

Hope it works ok. Let me know if there are any glitches. Please e-mail me
with positive and critical comments, as well as anything you'd suggest as
changes, improvements, etc.

Thanks!

Faithfully,
Lynn Allan

FYI: Here is a description of the three files above:

InV_be.mdb : This is a file holding the rarely changing lookup tables and
core passages/verses. It should only have to be download once.

InVerse.mde : This is a file holding the queries, forms, and VBA code. It
will change regularly based on feedback from the beta testers. It isn't all
that large of a file.

InVerse.exe : This is a large file holding all three 'pieces' of the beta
software. This includes InV_be.mdb, InVerse.mde, and the various files
required by Access-97. It only has to be downloaded once.

Once the beta test is underway, only the InVerse.mde file should need to be
updated.

Subject: Ps. 199 (not impossible!)
From: "Vicki Schellhase"

It's not "too long" to memorize. I haven't done it myself, but lots of
folks in our homeschooling organization (Advanced Training Institute - Bill
Gothard's organization) have done it. There's a special pin they receive
when they do it.

Subject: Re: Memorizing James Together
From: "muzika e"

Hey Lorry,

I'd like to give this a shot. I know I'm a bit late in getting started,
but
I may be able to memorize the first 8 verses in the next 7days. Are we
using a particular version?

____________________

Subject: introduction
From: "Terre Blodgett"

Hello,

My name is Terre Blodgett, and I am interested in memorizing Bible
scripture. I have memorized many verses from the Bible, but I only
recently
have begun to memorize Bible passages. I have memorized Ps 1 and Ps 100,
and I'm working on memorizing Ps 91, Ps 27, and the Beatitudes of Mt 5.

Memorizing scripture brings me a lot of joy because of the power God's word
holds and how it teaches. Because of the Bible verses I know, I have
become
a more effective prayer and better at understanding God's will.

I am interested in hearing about different strategies that other people use
to memorize scripture.

In Christ,
Terre

I sure there are others, but I know that Assemblies of God, Nazarenes, and
Christian & Missionary Alliance denominations all do quizzing. You might
be
able to get info from one of their offices on how to get started with your
group.

Louise, thanks for the info on "Sing the Word." Unfortunately, I can't
sell the tapes because it's not my music. It's just me singing into a
tape recorder. Maybe you could find someone in your area who plays piano
to team up with and learn them?

I've done it. It took me a good 8 months or so, but Psalm 119 has become
one
of my favorite parts of the Bible. I memorized it by learning 2 eight
verse
sections per week. Review is essential, too. And the best part is that
after
you have finished it, you feel like you can now memorize anything!
God bless,
Kay

Hello!
I'm actually in the process of memorizing Psalm 119. I have a very
busy schedule, but I've done 24 verses. I broke it up into doing 4 verses
a
week. Every morning I wake up, I memorize a new verse, and the three extra
days are for review. It worked so far. I figure I'll finish at the end of
the
year. Hope this helps.

Hi Scripture Memory friends!

It's been about 4 months since I've placed any posts. Since I have a
