Thought I'd introduce myself to everyone on the list. My name is Ken Boer, I just graduated from college and am going on to do an internship program at a church this fall. I was a music major and plan to go on in music, so I am very interested in the many ways that scripture and music can intersect. I got started on scripture memorization a few months ago when a friend gave me a copy of Word for Word, a book by John Rees, a pastor in Pennsylvania. I had never been steady in my memorization before, but this book got me going. It's a book of scripture passages set to music. They're long passages, often entire psalms or large paragraphs from other portions of scripture. Everything is NIV. He wrote the book for use in the school where he is principal, and kids learn the songs and memorize verses all the way K-12, and review them every couple years. I sat down with the book and made a cassette tape of myself singing some of the psalms, and work through it on my hour-long commute to work in the morning. I was able to learn 4 psalms last week with the tape. It's really been an incredible blessing. I must learn 2 to 3 times as fast with the music, and I'm sure I retain more. The book also suggests rhythms for speaking or "rapping" scripture along with hand claps and knee pats for children. _I am looking for any materials that anyone knows of that are similar to this_. I spent 6-8 hours searching the web and writing emails a few days ago looking for anything similar. I haven't found anything, especially with longer portions of scripture. Can any of you point me in the right direction? Does any such material exist? Thanks. Hello Herb - and everyone!!! I appreciate very much the notes some have sent. Our family will be away in the jungle for a couple months (but will still be memorizing Scripture - and encouraging tribal Christians to do so), so I won't be on here. But do post a note occasionally to encourage others. We all need it!! God bless!
