Hello folks,
I work with a group called Christian Service Brigade, CSB. It is a boys club of
boy ages 12-18. We are taking on a project of memorizing Romans 12 and then
challenging other clubs to do the same.  Our goal is to recite Romans
12 in our church on Fathers Day as a group. Our dream is to begin challenging
groups of men to also memorize Romans 12 and recite the passage together on
Fathers Day in their local church.  It would be neat to see men's ministries
take on such a challenge.  I can't help but dream of the changes that would take
place if men's lives and their families if they would memorize the chapter.

What I looking for is if someone has put Romans 12 to music. It someone has, I
would like to hear it.  I think it would be easier to memorize if put to music.

I'm still fairly new to this "email forum" so i don't have a lot of knowledge to
offer, BUT i do know that scripture is easier to memorize if you simply listen
to 'bible songs' made up of either the kjv, niv, or the nkjv. I know what you're
thinking and you're right in that there's not a lot of 'bible songs' out there
(especially whole books of the Bible). Yet i'm presently working on singing the
entire book of Matthew (niv) all with accompaning instruments (a cinematic style
so it will 'fit the tastes' of most people). I've already memorized the first 8
chapters effortlessly, without 'trying' to do so. Sometimes i will literally
hear portions of text 'speak to me' during certain times of the day (spiritual
choices, witnessing, needed encouragement, etc). When i used to 'labor' at
memorizing the scripture through certain 'technics' it just didn't seem to work
as well; of couse it could be just me. Keep memorizing the ways you think are
best by all means. Just give 'bible songs' a try. It's fun and memorable at the
same time :) My goal is to place the entire NT to song before i die.

I find it difficult to memorizing scriptures that contain lists, such as Phil
4:8.  So I have come up with a few ways to remember them.
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is
anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things.

First I put it in a form that helps me see the pattern.

Finally, brethren,            whatever things are true,

                                    whatever things are noble,

                                    whatever things are just,

                                    whatever things are pure,

                                    whatever things are lovely,

                                    whatever things are of good report,

if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy -

meditate on these things.

Then I come up with a phrase that will help me to remember it within another
context. (This one is kinda goofy but it works.)

(A TRUE and NOBLE man JUST wanted a PURE and LOVELY wife)



My wife uses the first letter of each work in order to memorize the text like
so:



F,B,      WTAT,

            WTAN,

WTAJ,

            WTAP,

            WTAL,

            WTAOGR,

ITIAV A ITIAP - MOTT

Lavern,

We are using the NIV. Using a song for the chapter would make memorizing it
simpler and more enjoyable.  Again, our goal is to challenge our mem's ministry
to get behind the effort to memorize Romans 12 and then challenge other men's
ministries to do the same.  Like starting a little fire, in men's hearts.

Hey Lavern,

Well we would rather use the KJV or the NKJV but the prose/structure of the NIV
works better (composing 'lyrics' with no set verse, bridge, or chorus is awkwark
and hard to make the material sound like a complete song). BUT, i too have been
thinking about doing some in KJV or NKJV. The KJV's archaic thee, thou, howbeit,
etc, is why i might go with the NKJV (not withstanding some manuscripts which
may not be quit as accurate, in some places, as the Textus Receptus codex).
