There has been so little activity on this list that I figure most of you have
forgotten that the list exists.  No one has sent a message to the list since
last April!
 
As a reminder, this is an e-mail discussion list dedicated to the topic of

will be sent to all members of the list. Replies to any of these messages will
also be sent to all the members of the list.  There are currently about 200

Stephen and others,

I hope you are all being blessed through the memorization of God's amazing Word.
 I know I am.  I have written with my story before, but I just wanted to pass on
a quick word of encouragement to you all.  God has given me a calling and a
passion to memorize and retain the entire New Testament.  I received this call
from the Holy Spirit around my 25th birthday, and my goal was to accomplish this
task by age 30.  At this point I am still on track, by the grace of God, and I
have about one year left to go.  Currently, I'm halfway through Luke, whick will
be book #25.  I'll finish the task over the next year by memorizing Acts, and
then last of all, Matthew.  (strange order, I know!)


First of all, however, you have to understand that I am probably the laziest
person in the world on my own.  All of this perseverance in memorization has
come through the power of the Holy Spirit.  It all started with a prayer
something like this:

         "Lord, I know that on my own I don't have the desire to know you
intimately through your Word.  Please put that desire in my heart!
In this way, you will receive all of the glory, because none of it will be my
own accomplishment."


A prayer and an attitude like this will open up the floodgates for you!
I am truly convinced of this.  Five years ago, I was stuck trying to memorize
James.  I could barely get it done, and soon I would stop reviewing it
altogether.  Finally, I would have to start all over again, which was very
discouraging.  Sound familiar?  This cycle can change for you, too.
Just throw yourself before his throne and be willing to admit that on your own
you can't do it. (and probably don't even have the desire to)  God will lift you
up and empower you from there.  In this way, God will be accomplishing this work
in your life at every point.
He will give you the desire, the Holy Spirit will encourage and empower you, and
you will give all the glory to God.  Or, as Paul writes:


(Rom. 11:36)  "For from him, and through him, and to him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen."

Hi List!

I want to share a method that I learned while in the m=military. The Army
teaches its pilots to memorize backwards, the theory being that the things
farthest away from the front need to be repeated most often for the entire
structure to stay in place once you reach the beginning and start reciting.

I have use this technique when learning large chunks ( a chapter, or several
chapters) and find it quite effective.

I'd be interested in any feedback on memorization methods.

Hey Hi!

At this moment i am working on this idea and i drop it into the mix to see if
anyone else has the same kind of leaning or can advise me on the best way to
go....


1) The verse Problem!

The verse problem is this; that it is impossible (for me) to remember the verse
refrence, ie: the book is quite easy to remember but the chapter and verse is a
little more difficult. Now in Christian company this is not a problem but when i
am with people they will ask me...which verse...or which chapter... and there is
the fudge!


Without remembering the chapter number and verse number it is very difficult to
give this information off the top of my head and i have to ask myself if my
committment is as strong as all that....


this is the verse problem...any ideas????

It's very odd that you send this message out today.  My boyfriend just decided
that he was going to start trying to work on memorizing Scripture very soon.  He
just finished reading through the Bible twice, and he wanted to start memorizing
scripture next.  I gave him the material that I printed off of our website to
help him start!

hello, I am a Brazilian and I use the program changing the texts in English for
Portuguese. I have great interest in memorizing the God's Word, since the
reading of the Bible is easier the studies, the sermon understand, association
with other verses of the same context. Even when I am talking or hear, the
verses appear in my mind of incredible form. I believe that in this way, I am
helping the God's kingdom, since I am me preparing in knowing to God and his
grace and so being able to be more useful in the services of the Church and of
the propagation of the gospel. God blesses to all.

Dear Memory Verses Org Members,
 
My name is David Harvey, and I live in Odessa, Ukraine.  As a 52 year old
disabled pensioner, I downloaded E-Sword with all add-ons from HYPERLINK
"http://www.e-sword.net"www.e-sword.net.  I enjoyed reading the Bible through
with several commentaries and dictionaries and maps to aid my understanding. 
 
Now I have seen that I need to memorize Scripture in order to establish
doctrines in my feeble mind and to witness to others, if I run across a Russian
or Ukrainian that speaks English.  I have very high blood pressure and this
negatively affects my memory.  I need a system to do this right. Now I know
people are memorizing whole verses, chapters and books of the Bible.  I have
even read that the Moslems expect a 13 year-old to quote the Quran.  We as
Christians should do no less, because one day, our Bibles will be taken from us
and destroyed in order to stamp out Christianity and some of us must undertake
this work for that day.  It will not be the first or the last time this has
happened in history and history does repeat itself.
 
Being a pensioner due to disability, I found three free Bible Memory programs in
addition to the new E-Sword version 7.7.7, which are Bible Memory 2000,
Scripture Memory System 3, InVerse and Lamp Light.  I am wondering are there any
others that might be better to use.  What abibilities should a good Bible memory
program have?  Which is the better one to use?
 
I also have a free program that automatically give me the verse in KJV from a
cite, called InstaVerse from Word Search, that has saved me a lot of time.  I
would appreciate any response.

Hello Everybody,

I am sorry for not writing anything and thank you for the reminder!

My goal this year has been to read the whole of the scriptures! I am using the
New King James Version translation of the bible, at the moment. I hope to read
the KJV bible right through on the next reading of the bible.

Please pray that the Lord will continually help me to stay the course in my
bible reading and foremostly in my walk with Him.

I can't agree with you more, it is very true sometimes I wonder why I have been
so lazy in memorizing scripture. I use to have such a passion to memorize
scripture and now all is gone. I have been struggling for a long time to get
back to this discipline without much success. As I pray I will request that you

Hello David, I also am 52, well almost.  My birthday is on Saturday.  The
program that I recommend is to simply identify verses of scripture to memorize
as the Holy Spirit impresses them upon you.  Work on them every day until you
have mastered them.  Some will take only a day or two while others will take
longer.  When you have a verse mastered move it to weekly recall. These are the
verses you have previously memorized and then recall them at the end of the
week.  If you can recite both the text and the reference then move it to monthy
recall.  If you can't recite the text and reference work on it again until I
have it down and then keep it in your weekly recall list.  I think you can see
the pattern here.  You will have daily memory verses, weekly recall verses,
monthly recall verses, quarterly (once every three months) etc,  When you have a
verse mastered move it to less frequent recall.  If at that time you can't quote
both the verse and reference then move it back up the list and work on it
again.  This will help to keep verses fresh in your mind.  I hope this helps.

Hi,
In my passion to memorize Scripture I created The Bible Study in Stereo (with
the help of many saints) to help people memorize chapters of Scripture to music.
 Our group originally memorized Romans 12 using many different memory tool
techniques - music was one of them.  We discovered everyone had the most fun
with the music and 6 months later - everyone still knew those verses!  We use
the NIV - not my translation of choice - but the translation we believe the Lord
wanted us to use. Our music is word for word from the Scriptures with some
phrases repeated.  So far, we have completed Philippians 1, 2, 3, 4, James 1, 2,
Ephesians 4, Colossians 3, and Psalms 1 & 103.  We have a website at tbsis.com -
you can sample the music - we think it is pretty good - it may not be your style
- but hey - if it is not - I guarantee it will grow on you if you have a desire
to memorize chapters of
Scripture.

I am very interested in memorizing scriptures from the bible.  I study but I
can't remember most of the scriptures that I read.  I love the Lord and i love
his word and would likie to learn more about him, especially when I'm faced with

Hello, my name is Ron Burkholder and I work for Remax, I bought a blackberry
phone and find this the easiest way to keep all my Bible verses with me at all
times. I'm sure you may have heard of Dr.Jack Van Impe I am using his
memorization plan. I started Jan 1 2006 and have not missed a day yet praise the
Lord! No Q-cards at all and I store all verses in my Act Data base on my
computer by topic and packet number and then just transfer to my black berry and
away I go! Anywhere, and I am on schedule to have 1040 Bible verses memorized by
topic by Jan 1, 07.
I simply cut and paste the bible verse from an online KJV Bible site and Paste
into the Act Data base and transfer to the blackberry! It fantastic and I have
all my verses with me at all times. You know its hard to carry all your cards
with you when ever you go out.
Remember Save each verse like this: P 1a Romans 1:1 then the next verse needs to
be saved as P 1b, I do this until the letter t and this is 20 verses for the
week. said aloud 7x P simply means Packet, I am now on P8. I hope this may be of
help to you.

i recently found a small program (MyVerses) for scripture memorization that
works on a Palm treo. its incredible useful, as i almost always have the palm
phone with me, and can just open it up and start reviewing. the software uses
Ron Hood's scripture memory review system, which i've found works very well.

i know this 'place' is for a different software program, but i'm sure Christians
will appreciate any program that helps improve memorizing God's Word.
