From: Bible Memory List

I believe the Lord asked me to begin memorizing the book of John (NLT
translation) a couple of years ago and it's been difficult to get past the first
chapter.

Could you give me any ideas or point me to resources that would help me be able
to stay consistent with my memorization?

I would also enjoy hearing from someone who has actually memorized the Book of
John for encouragement and support.  Would you be able to give me contact info.
to someone who could help me in this area?

I greatly appreciate the work you all have done to accomplish what I believe is
God's goal for every Believer.....to share the Good News with boldness!

"Well done!"

Blessings,

Marissa

Has anyone ever mentioned programming a software app to randomly play portions
of the Bible on their pc (using voice synthesis algo's or actual human voices)?
Then, for those who keep there pc's on all the time, simply go about your normal
day hearing the portions of scripture automatically play on the pc.

Subject: BibleMem: Memorizing verses numbers
From: Bible Memory List

Hi everybody! I haven't heard from anyone on this list for some time, so I
thought I'd throw out some information and a question to see if we can get going
again. I have been memorizing scripture seriously since July,2004.
Had done some before that but like others wasn't consistent.
My longest passage so far has been Psalm 34. Now I think the Lord may be calling
me to memorize the book of Romans. I'd love to hear from others who have or are
memorizing this book. Like how God used it in your life and/or the lives of
others. Also I don't memorize the number of each verse when I do long passages,
but I read an article on the web yesterday that recommended doing this, and said
that it actually makes memorization easier in the long run. The author suggests
saying like Romans 1:1, then reciting that, 1:2 then recite that verse, etc.
through all of the verses. What I have done has been to recite just the book and
chapter when I memorize a full chapter, or the book, chapter and range of verses
for a longer passage.
What do you think? How much of an address do you out there memorize?

Judy

Good question from Judy about memorizing I haven't memorized Romans but I

have memorized 6 other of Paul's shorter epistles and quote them daily using

the following method. Memorize the first verse, last verse, and all
verses divisible by 5 in a chapter(example vs 1, 5, 10, 15, 20 etc. These
are my "anchor verses" and I memorize them "cold". When I can recite them

fluently then I am ready to "fill in the blanks". The tension of
memorizing isolated verses is resolved when the blanks are filled in, the
passage emerges and the whole chapter comes into focus, complete with sentence
and paragraph structure. The result also seems to be that when I quote
Scripture I can usually mentally identify my "anchor verses" and be able to
figure out quickly the logical verse number of the verses surrounding it. In my
opinion, actually verbalizing every verse number would fracture the flow of the
passage, seem robotic and detract from the
wonderful fluid writing of this Apostle. However, being able to quickly
"figure out" the verse number also seems very important and, at least for
me, the above "anchor verse" method works pretty well.

I'm still fairly new to this "email forum" so i don't have a lot of knowledge to
offer, BUT i do know that scripture is easier to memorize if you simply listen
to 'bible songs' made up of either the kjv, niv, or the nkjv. I know what you're
thinking and you're right in that there's not a lot of 'bible songs' out there
(especially whole books of the Bible). Yet i'm presently working on singing the
entire book of Matthew (niv) all with accompaning instruments (a cinematic style
so it will 'fit the tastes' of most people). I've already memorized the first 8
chapters effortlessly, without 'trying' to do so. Sometimes i will literally
hear portions of text 'speak to me' during certain times of the day (spiritual
choices, witnessing, needed encouragement, etc). When i used to 'labor' at
memorizing the scripture through certain 'technics' it just didn't seem to work
as well; of couse it could be just me. Keep memorizing the ways you think are
best by all means. Just give 'bible songs' a try. It's fun and memorable at the
same time :) My goal is to place the entire NT to song before i die.

Blessings to all..

Hello folks,
I work with a group called Christian Service Brigade, CSB. It is a boys club of
boy ages 12-18. We are taking on a project of memorizing Romans 12 and then
challenging other clubs to do the same. Our goal is to recite Romans
12 in our church on Fathers Day as a group. Our dream is to begin challenging
groups of men to also memorize Romans 12 and recite the passage together on
Fathers Day in their local church. It would be neat to see men's ministries
take on such a challenge. I can't help but dream of the changes that would take
place if men's lives and their families if they would memorize the chapter.

What I looking for is if someone has put Romans 12 to music. It someone has, I
would like to hear it. I think it would be easier to memorize if put to music.
Thanks
