Any suggestions and helps you can give would be appreciated. Thanks for this opportunity, it's always easier to study with a group to give encouragement. Misty =============================================================================== Sent: Monday, November 08, 1999 8:40 PM Subject: Re: Bible Memorization From: "Larry A LaBonte" Misty: Find a verse that the Holy Spirit has really touched your heart with. Take that verse or passage, write it down three times a day until you are doing it from memory....always meditate on the scripture that you are trying to memorize and you will be blessed with knowledge from God. ----- Original Message ----- From: misty To: Sent: Monday, November 08, 1999 8:40 PM > Hello, > My name is Misty and I would love to memorize as much as I > can of the New testament. Question: I find that I tend to work at my scripture memory verses in bursts rather than on going and consistently. In the long term I think that working at it consistently is better than continually being on-again-off-again. I am sure that most everybody is very busy with all the things they are involved in and find that it is very easy for certain things to run off the tracks. I have developed a number of good aids for me and my family to memorize verses, but all of a sudden I would realise that I have not used it for a couple of weeks. How do you sustain consistency???? Suggestion #1: Why not the OT too? the whole Bible is inspired! I'm no expert. I've only recently been challenged to do this myself (since last February, although I've done it for several brief periods in the past). This time I'm in it for life. The book of Joshua has given me the most inspiration. For the Lord has spoken to me and blessed greatly from books of the OT . But I can only work on one at a time, my brain is small and to much blows fuses. I just started about two months now and it's hard but I have faith with Jesus I can do anything. Thanks Misty ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Sunday, November 28, 1999 12:37 PM Subject: Re: > Hello, my name is Jeff. > > Suggestion #1: Why not the OT too? the whole Bible is inspired! > > I'm no expert. Really make this a life-long commitment. That doesn't mean you can't take a little break of some kind occasionally, to help avoid it become a burden, but make sure it is just a break, and get back to it! :) Roger Doriot in Irian Jaya http://www.jesus-connect.net/world/jesus/Doriot =============================================================================== Date: Mon, 29 Nov 1999 17:05:23 -0500 Subject: Re: Moderator's Note From: "Heather-Dawn Small" Dear Stephen: I have the same problem. It's so bad with me that I feel guilty all the time because I know it's something I should be doing but don't seem to find the time to be consistent. I guess the problem is all about prioritizing. But for me that's hard when most things seem to be priorities. I am a working mother of two and a pastor's wife. It's real hard to be consistent. I wish there was some easy answer. I, myself, have not yet had a problem with consistency, but I know it will come. There are ebbs and flows with any project. I try to think of it as any other habit I must accomplish. Like, how is it that I consistenty brush my teeth each morning or eat lunch every day? I guess I have convinced myself of the very necessity of the act and set my life up so that I am available to do it. It IS true, that I have occassionally missed brushing my teeth and/or eating lunch, but that is rare. I study my verses during my daily drive to work. Periodically I would rather 'buzz out' listening to music rather than challenging myself to recite my long list of memorized verses -again. That's when I go through a pep talk with myself reminding myself about all the advantages of memorizing scripture - Psalm 119:105 and Joshua 1:8, for example. It would be a greater challenge if I were also motivating family members. Maybe hooking it onto an already established family habit like dinner together or bedtime stories would help. Thanks for providing this email list as a means to encourage each other. Am working through Ephesians now--am in Chapter 5. This will be my 14th bk. of the N.T. Review is the real problem. It really helps when preparing for a class or talk to have the word stored up in your mind. I meditate on what I've already memorized at various times---many times lying in bed at night--sometimes it may be 2:00 in morning, but this is not really good because it makes me stay awake and lose sleep. Also I carry a N.T around in the glove compartment of both the family cars and at sundry times when waiting on wife in store ect. will do memory work. It's thrills my soul to hear others are storing up God's precious word in their hearts---God bless---Walt ===============================================================================
