I am interested in how you heard about Supermemo and if it is working for
you.

Also, what is your age and have you had any feedback from older individuals
using this to improve their memory?

Thanks much,
Bill

Dear Ben:

I appreciated your response to my input on Scripture memory. I have found
that I am most consistent in memorizing Scripture when I meet with one or
more other men. I would encourage you to pray for other men who have an
interest in building their walk with Jesus Christ through the Word.

I should mention that I taught a the Evangelical Theological College for
one
summer course in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia in 1998. It was a great
experience
for me to spend a brief time in that part of Africa. I have been praying
at
different time for the many needs there are in many parts of Africa.

May God continue to encourage you day by day through the Word.

Keith I have usually followed the Navigators material in the Topical Memory
System. Right now I am teaching the original 2:7 material which
incorporate
Scripture memory in every course.

There are several suggestions that the material provides in the initial
courses. I would like to know if your would like methods for memorizing or
suggested topics.

Subject: Re: MEMORIZATION
From: "Randy Nelson"

Hi Veda,
Here are a few Bible memorization tips that help me.
Become familiar with the context around the verse. For example: Genesis
24:40 The Lord will send His angel and prosper my way. (This is not the
whole verse, but the part that I want to focus on.) Know the story
surrounding the verse. The Lord blesses Abraham for his faithfulness in
not withholding Isaac from sacrifice knowing God would still provide the
promise through Isaac by raising him up. Invision Abraham, an old man and
morning for his beloved wife Sarah. (23:1, 2). Watch him bury her.
(23:19).
Abraham goes to his oldest, trusted servant asking him to get a wife for
his
son Isaac, the son of promise, from his homeland (Genesis 24:2- 4) Abraham
reassures his servant that surely God will provide, He will send his angel
ahead of him to see to it that the journey is successful. The servant is
familiar with what God has done in Abraham's life and shows us through his
prayer, that he embraces the same faith that Abraham demonstrated in his
life. (24:12 -14) The servant if expecting God to answer as he waits by
the
desert well. He watches carefully as a young girl comes to water the
camels
(24:20, 21) and he falls down in praise to God worshipping God for His
faithfulness and kindness. (24:26) In your mind watch the servant,
Rebekah,
and the camels head home to Rebekah's brother, Laban. Notice how she is
dressed. Become familiar with the geographical area, the desert terrain,
their housing, their customs. See them greet each other and listen to the
servant explain the reason for his journey and how wonderfully faithful God
is in sending Rebekah. Then the servant speaks the very words of the verse
that is the promise to me and you in our situations too. "The Lord will
send His angels and prosper my way." This is in the first person because
the promises to Abraham are also promises to you and to me. The Bible is
full of personal promises that are prescriptions for healing, protection,
wisdom, etc. I also write out the verse and see how many questions I
can
make out of the verse and answer my own questions. It helps to break down
the different grammatical parts, such as being especially alert for verbs,
etc. When I do my devotions I pray different verses out loud often. I
write down the reverence with book, chapter and verse, but most of my
concentrating is only on the book and chapter. My mind usually picks up the
verse. It helps me to connect events in my life with the numbers in the
verse, such as having my first child when I was 24 and noticing the
repetition of the two fours connecting chapter and verse. It is helpful to
look up words in the verse in the dictionary, such as prosper. Writing it
down on index cards helps too. Use repetitious daily needs, as going to
the
bathroom, opening the refrigerator, getting a drink of water, etc. as times
to repeat your verse. Let them be triggers for review time. Just eat the
verse savoring every aspect of it. Reading the Bible Code has given me a
new awareness of the dimension of the Word of God. The words from the
Bible
are not flat. They have depth. They are like a hologram. The Bible, each
Scripture, is like the top of the ocean that you can see with your eyes,
or
read with your mind, but there is an essence contained in the words of the
Bible that is deeper than the depth of the ocean. We know the surface of
the
verse, but there is a depth of meaning and promise beneath. Our God is so
big and we can not fathom his majesty, and His Word is like Him. I too
wish
I had much more ability to memorize and recall Scriptures. Once when I had
a high fever. As I rested in bed half asleep, eues closed and I read the
Bible. I read it in my mind, in my sub-conscience. The state I was in was
a kind of sub-dream state, but as I was reading I marveled that what I was
reading was indeed the Word of God and it was accurate, and I saw myself on
the bed with a high fever, eyes closed with no book to look at. This only
happened once, and it is a comfort to me that my sub-conscience knows a lot
more of the Word of God than my conscious mind does. Putting your verses
to music is great and seems to increase retention for me. I learned Psalm
91 through music and my Sunday School Junior class of 5th and 6th graders
learned it with me. You have that websight- Thy Word Creations. They do
an
excellent job. Time is something I have too little of, and my desire is
greater than what I actually achieve, but these little tips are offered as
something that has helped me. It also helps to give your Scriptures as
"gifts" to another person by just telling them about a particular Scripture
I have given you the gift of Genesis 24:40 tonight. In the Love of
Christ, Vickie

I've found flash cards to be effective.

Given the nature of my job, I spend a lot of time on the highway. Instead
of
being the chore it used to be God directed me to turn it into a "Praise
Mobile" - a selection of cd's, time in prayer and just talking to God mixed
with the occasional flash card.

I've come to treasure my road trips as a result. God is good!!!

Hi Bill,

I came across SuperMemo while doing a search on memorisation on the web.I
have not tried the system myself.I feel that the system is useful as it
enables one to do self asessment and it then sets the review frequency
accordingly, automaticallly. As I mentioned, no one seems to haved used it to
memorise scripture before.

Amen, Patrick!

I do the same thing! I took a job 4 years ago that requires an hour and
15 minute commute. I was complaining to God about it one day early in the
job and He reminded me that it was extra quiet time with Him! Well, I
started putting the time to good use with some excellend praise Cd's and
some verse index cards and now I wouldn't trade my regular time with Him
in the car each day for anything. People will ask me how I have time to
memorize scripture and I tell them my story. After over three years of
this process I have over 500 verses memorized. I divide them up by days
of the week and review them for 30 minutes of each trip that day. I
always have a few new verses to be learning and concentrate on them when
I'm stopped at lights or in traffic jams [since I have to actually read
them].

I have a couple web pages and discussion groups started. The information
is at the bottom of this email.
