1tim1:15 1tim 2;4 heb7:25  you can see the words i have used here save or
saved  i print out on my computer  and staple them and use them and i find
them a lot better than using cards  another examp;le life is brief James
4:14 Death Heb9:27 when u read the bilbe u will try to pick out  word of
that verse that is a key for memorizing it like   life is uncertain
Proverbs " Boast not thyself of tomorrow for thou knowest not what a day
may
bring forth.

Kathy,

I'm a pretty young guy, but I was started memorizing scripture when I was 4
years old.  I resumed it when I was 15, and have carried through to this
date, nearly 8 years later.  I am now in the process of refreshing in my
memory several books of the New Testament I've completed during previous
years.  There is no "magic formula" I've found, but there is a profound
principle from God's Word in Joshua 1:8:

"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt
MEDITATE therein DAY and NIGHT, that thou mayest OBSERVE TO DO according to
ALL that is WRITTEN therein:  for THEN thou shalt make thy way prosperous,
and then THOU SHALT HAVE GOOD SUCCESS."  Working DAILY on it is the key.
Once or twice a week is not enough to keep it, at least until you know it
by
heart.  And, as the book of James says,
"Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."

The other key is prayer.  Ask the Lord to magnify His Word in your life.
Little will be accomplished without seeking the Lord's direction and help.
Get a concordance and begin looking up all the references to "thy word"
(KJV).  It is awesome the truth that will be revealed to you.  Meditate
upon
the truth of Psalm 138:2b "...for Thou hast MAGNIFIED Thy WORD above all
Thy
name."  As great and awesome as the name of God is, His Word has been
placed
at a higher status even than that for us.

God bless you in memorizing, and give you "good success".

because of busyness or whatever reason, has not been doing so well lately
and could use some encouragement! I've been there myself, so know it helps
to have some encouragement sometimes to get going again.

9,
I have a job that includes travelling and am also involved in studying law
via correspondence and internet.  I don't seem to find the time to memorize
when I am at home life is so hectic.  When I am travelling things seem so
much less hectic and more conducive to memorizing and even spending more
time in my devotions.

Do you have any suggestions?

Roger,
Glad to see your note.  For me, memorization times are not constant.  =
Seems like I go through periods of storing away Scripture and then life =
comes along and sometimes hard parts in my walk of faith.   But, it is =
then, in the challenging times, where I find myself reviewing and =
actually seeing application, real life, for those words.

Really important thing that I've learned from participating (even mostly =
as a watcher) in this list is the need for review: a lot of daily review =
at first to memorize, then weekly, then revisiting monthly to have God's =
word truly hidden away.

So I'm also learning not to kick myself if I'm not looking at all those =
little index cards every day or even one week to the next.  But my basic =
trust is in the Lord, which I do need to affirm every day, to keep me =
going....

"Not that I have already obtained all this or have already been made =
perfect but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took =
hold of me."  [Philippians 3:12]

Hi, I've been trying to memorize different parts in the bible, but I find i
do really good for a day or 2,but after that I'll go several times without

It's like an addiction isn't it. Have my lapses but always come back to it.
Am working on my 14th bk. of N.T. (Ephesians). It's so wonderful to have a
ready answer for the hope that is in me. (I Pet 3:15), to have the Word in
my
mind, so I can meditate on it at odd moments. I Carry around a N.T. in the
glove compartments of our two cars, so can memorize and read while waiting
on
wife in store ect. Review has become the big problem, proably because I
don't

Hello all....

My Name is Jim Hauer.  I am 47 years old and
live with my wife and 3 children in Southern California.
I am a relatively new Christian of 4 years and have
recently recognized the importance of Bible memorization
to developing a full relationship with God.

My wife has a tremendous gift for memorization and routinely
memorizes chapters and entire books of the bible.   To get
ready for a bible study we are both participating in this year she
decided to memorize Romans.....I am lucky to remember my phone number.

I am a rank beginner but excited by the challenge and being
to be in communication with those who want to "write God's word on their
hearts"
(Is that written somewhere .....?)

GOOD COMMENTS! Yes, we all have our ups and downs, times of real
zealousness and times of a little lethargy!  :)

Consistent review IS the key to learning, and retaining. I've found I can
learn verses just by going over them every day without taking a lot of time
on them each day. Some do take longer than others.

Yes, we need to learn not to "kick ourselves" too much when we fail, and
not to be too easy on ourselves at times as well. The Lord forgives us, and
we need to forgive ourselves. Improper self-condemnation only discourages
us and makes things harder - or impossible.

If memorizing becomes too much of a burden, we need to adjust our pace, or
our perspective, or perhaps take a little "vacation" from it. But then we
need to get back to it, realizing the great blessing it does bring to us
and to those around us as well.

Yes, I'd say work at taking at least a little time daily for memorization,
even if your days are hectic when you're home. Perhaps you can do more
while traveling, but discipline yourself, with the Lord's help, to take a
few minutes here and there at home even on your busiest days.

We do all have 1,440 minutes in every day, and I think it's pretty hard for
any of us to show objectively that we really can't take ten, fifteen, or
twenty minutes sometime in that day for a little time for Bible reading,
prayer, and Scripture memorization. We must do it - and we can. We can take
time for the things that we really consider important. You may have to work
on your organization, on your discipline, on evaluating just what you are
doing with your time, etc. You will undoubtedly need to get some help from
a friend, or several friends, to give you some advice from time to time,
and to pray for you. I'd be willing to take a little time for that for a
while if necessary.

I'm sending you a plan I've used that can be varied to the time you have,
writing verses on 3 by 5 cards, so you can easily carry them with you or
keep them in places where you can readily access them and review when you
have a few minutes. You can memorize verses without taking a long time on
any one day. Going over a verse, or a number of verses, every day
consistently, will enable you to eventually memorize them. Check out my

My Suggestion to you would be to incorparate the memory work as part of
your devotional practice.  Make the verse you are working on the focus of
your praying and learning.

Heather, I find that business card sized memory cards work well. I slip my
latest few verses in a pocket and review while driving. I try not to be
real
flashy with them, but they have even led into the opportunity for me to
start spiritual conversations with travel partners.

In terms of what to memorize I am a fan of topical memory programs. They
make it easier to review. Navigators have a program called the Topical
Memory System (TMS). You should be able to pick it up at many Christian
book
stores in a format that includes the printed cards. I use an older out of
print version of the TMS. I just made a template in MS Word and typed in
the
verses and print it on card stock. I little work with the paper cutter and
local laminator and I have verse cards I can use in the pool

Do have anytime to walk or exercise? What I do is take my memory verse
cards on
my morning walks, and review and learn them then. I also review my verses
while
I shave in the morning (probably NOT an option for you - ha!) and when I
shower. With more limited success, I have learned and reviewed verses
during my
morning commute to work.
