Subject: Keeping yesteryear's memory work fresh
From: David Baldwin

Hey Mark,

What a great way to memorize Scripture! You've found a way to make Scripture
memory exciting and interesting not just for you, but for others as well. Good
job!

A question for those you who have memorized large portions of Scripture: How do
you keep all your memorized work in your head all the time? I've wrestled with
this for many years now and recently came up with a system that I think will
work. I by no means claim that the system is perfect and would sure appreciate
other ideas.

For those who are interested I'll outline what I'm doing:

1) Supermemo
o Supermemo is a memory program located at supermemo.com. It's
not exactly user-friendly and I wouldn't spring for the $40.00 price tag unless
you're a computer geek as I am, but it does seem quite powerful. Basically, I've
got it set up to quiz me on my Scripture memory on a daily basis. Those
passages I do well on I don't see again for a while. But those passages that I
recite poorly I see quite frequently until I get them down!

2) A microphone
o So if I just quoted a chapter, how do I know I really got every
word correct? Well I've got a microphone hooked up to my computer so that I can
review and keep myself honest!

3) Stay hungry!
o I so appreciate Mark's approach because he's found a way to keep
the Word from becoming dry. I realize that it is evidence of my own carnal
nature, but sometimes memorizing Scripture is more a chore than a pleasure. To
combat this I look for opportunities to present the Bible on stage. Scripture
is quite effective in oral presentation (I'm sure many of you own recordings of
the Bible) and sharing that effectiveness with others is an opportunity that
gives me joy and keeps me motivated.

Thanks in advance for input.

David

hi Pam.

I do have an easy way to memorize, but it isn't for
everyone. But since you asked I thought I would post
it. What motivates me is, I am helping out a local
Bible Quiz program at a church. Bible Quiz is for 7th
- 12th grade, and is in several denominations. That
way you can get motivated to memorize, as well as
impact young people for God. (the kids think it is so
great if you memorize it along with them)

Depending upon the program, they can memorize 15 to 50
verses a week. And this year we are just starting on
the book of John. Which I've discovered (again) is an
awesome book!

so for me, without BQ, I don't know what could
motivate me. maybe thats why I like it so much.

God bless,

Mark

Heard about Bible Memorization on Christian Radio.

Start with verse one of a chapter on the first day of
the week. Follow with verse two on the second.
If the chapter has fewer than 30 verses, you review
the whole chapter in the remaining days of the month.
